Leak Buster Omaha First Impressions

After a huge outcry from users demanding that the product be made, the folks behind Leak Buster released a new Pot Limit Omaha edition.  Many PLO players rejoiced at the news and quickly bought copies through the Holdem Manager website, aiming to utilize the powerful program to plug leaks and improve their games.

Given that the price of the program, which can be run over and over again for life, is about the same as a single coaching session, purchasing it seems like a no-brainer for players.

Installing the new edition of Leak Buster Omaha is very simple.  You’ll first need to update your Holdem Manager to at least Version 1.11.06b, which will show an “Omaha” tab under the HM APPS section.  From there, you can take advantage of the free trial, which does not unlock all of the features behind the program, but allows you to interface with it before you decide to buy.

If you decide to buy, you can do so from the Holdem Manager website and you’ll be given a serial number that you will enter when you start up Leak Buster PLO and hit the “Register” button.  Once you’ve done that, you are all ready to roll.

The very first step in using the program is to compile stats and leaks.  You’ll be asked if you want to take your entire hand history and run it through Leak Buster or if you want to pick hands by a certain stake or with one of the pre-made filters.  For beginners, we definitely recommend picking a stake and then selecting the one you are currently playing at.

If you have a large number of hands, then it might take a while for the program to compile its report for you, so be patient the first time around.  We did a 10,000-hand sample on a brand new Intel Core i7 with 6 GB of RAM and the report took about two minutes to finish.

The first tab you’ll want to dive into is “Step 2 (Leak Buster),” as it will give you the overall report on your game.  At the top, you will see how many leaks you have, your total score, your overall grade, your BB/100, total win/loss, and the sample size.  Below that, you will see Leak Buster Advice, which will let you know what range is recommended for each leak and how you can correct it.

You’ll also find buttons for Leak History, Video, View Pre-Flop Hand Chart, and Export.  The program will remember your reports and, as you play and compile more reports, it will track to see if you are improving or regressing.

You’ll see all major components of your game, with stats like PFR%, W$WSF, Steal, 3-Bet, and more.  For each, you’ll see a suggested range and a score.  You’ll also see if it’s a big leak or a small leak that impacts your bankroll.  If you click on one of these leaks or stats, the Leak Buster Advice section will change accordingly.  It’s a pretty cool feature and you can read the information you need on each and every one of your leaks, with a video most of the time.

There’s a wealth of information in this section and our first impressions so far are really positive.  If you are familiar with Leak Buster for Hold’em, then you’ll really feel at home with this program.  It’s basically the same interface, but with an Omaha slant.  It can really help you with your game if you are new to Pot Limit Omaha and, even if you are a decent player, you can still benefit from the program exposing a part of your game you aren’t aware of.
